Three decisions before a useful quote
- Keep or move
- Identify fixtures staying in place and those moving or being added. Mark approximate locations on a sketch.
- Supply responsibility
- Separate owner-supplied products from items you want included in the plumbing quote. Keep specifications for selected fixtures.
- Access and sequence
- Note finished walls, ceilings and floors. Clarify who opens and restores them and how the plumbing work fits other trades.
Separate rough-in from final connections.
Ask for a written description of the work before walls or floors are closed, and a separate description of the final fixture connections. Confirm inspection checkpoints with the permit authority and provider before scheduling other trades around them.
- Which drawings or product specifications are needed?
- Who obtains the permit and books inspections?
- What must be ready before each visit?
- What is excluded: electrical, cabinetry, tile, disposal or repairs to finishes?
- How are changes after the quote approved and priced?
Check the local approval route early.
Quinte West’s guidance includes adding or relocating plumbing fixtures and modifying plumbing systems among permit-required work. The City offers an e-permit route for applications and inspection management. Its current portal guidance also identifies a design package for work on water or sewer lines. Ask the City which documents apply to your complete project.
