Describe the problem.
Plan the repair.

A clear repair request starts with what changed: a drip, a running toilet, a damp connection or a fixture that no longer works as it should. Tell us what you know; you do not need a diagnosis.

01

What to include for common repair enquiries

Faucet or shower
Record the fixture type and any visible brand or model. Describe when the problem occurs and whether hot, cold or both are affected.
Toilet
Explain whether the issue is filling, flushing, movement or water appearing nearby. Include the approximate age if known and any recent work.
Visible pipe or connection
Describe the location and when moisture appears. Tell the provider about access behind cabinets, walls or finished ceilings.
Replacement fixture
Say whether you have already purchased it. Keep model information available and confirm compatibility before installation is agreed.
02

Repair or replace? Ask what each option includes.

Compare the part or repair needed with the complete replacement scope. Useful questions include parts availability, the condition of the existing fixture, access, who supplies the new item and who takes away the old one. A lower fixture price does not tell you the installed cost.

  • Ask for diagnosis and proposed work in plain language.
  • Confirm supply lines, valves, fittings and disposal in the quote.
  • Check whether opening and repairing finishes is included.
  • Agree how any newly discovered work will be approved.
03

Staying in place is different from moving plumbing.

Quinte West lists replacement of an existing plumbing fixture in the same location among work that does not require a building permit. Its guidance lists new or relocated fixtures and plumbing modifications among work requiring a permit. A broader renovation can change the answer: confirm the complete scope with the City.

Keep the first request simple.

Give a Trenton postal code, one contact method and a short description. You can discuss photographs, exact access and fixture choices during follow-up. Avoid entering door codes, payment information or other sensitive details into the form.

YOUR QUESTIONS

Before the next step.

Should I buy the replacement parts first?

Ask the provider to confirm the required part or compatible fixture before you buy. Establish who supplies it and how product and installation responsibilities will be handled.

Is there a published hourly rate?

Request a written quote that sets out assessment charges, labour, materials and tax. The amount depends on the confirmed scope and site conditions.
